Neighbourhood Transport Initiative Update

A short update on progress with sustainable transport and cycling facilities for Gloucester Road.Work has been under way over the summer to survey the main shopping area of Gloucester Road for sites where extra bicycle racks can be located. Thanks to extra support from Bristol City Council an additional 20 stands (2 cycles each) approx will be installed in the area in the very near future. This will double the number of cycle stands near to popular shops although limited space means little can be done on the narrow part of the pavement.

Meanwhile we have developed a specification and worked with local designers to choose a design for an interesting noticeboard to help to promote local sustainable transport solutions. We shall shortly choose a final design and proceed to construct the chosen noticeboard. This will be used to publicise access to the Gloucester Road and around Bishopston by walking, cycling, buses, local trains, and car sharing. This will cover practical ways of getting about plus cycle safety and security. More news when the design is finalised. The noticeboard will also enable Sustainable Bishopston to publicise group activities and membership.

Lastly, the project will carry out several promotional events on the road to launch the noticeboard and spread information about sustainable transport along with transport-themed activities for local people.
