See below…

  1. Wednesday, November 4th. 6.30pm. The proprietor of Ablectrics, a long-established electrical shop on Gloucester Road will host in his showroom an evening demonstration of LED and other energy saving lighting options for your home.  In addition, for members he currently offers a 15% discount on all LED lights, a 10 % discount on other energy saving bulbs and possible discounts on other items on a case-by-case basis.  Please sign up at or email us at
  2. Thursday,  November 19th, 8pm at the Kensington Arms, 35-37 Stanley Road, Redland, Bristol BS6 6NP.  A draught-proofing workshop with a demonstration from an expert of a range of inexpensive options for different window types and the opportunity to  get some hands-on practice on a window frame.  All are welcome, but this should be of particular interest to those who are suffering from draughts in a rented property, including students.  You can do this yourself without a great deal of expense and save on bills.  No technical knowledge is needed, just an interest in greater comfort, saving energy and a drink at the pub!  Please sign up at or email
  3. Internal Home Energy Surveys
To assist people in making their homes more energy efficient, CHEESE (Cold Homes Energy Efficiency Survey Experts) will be offering internal energy surveys to homeowners in the BCR area during the winter months.  This will be done by thermal imaging and will highlight cold spots caused by draughts, poor  thermal insulation, etc. and will suggest remedial action.  A running-commentary on what is found is recorded along with the images and transferred to a CD or memory stick that the householder can use to plan a course of action.  The approximate cost will be £70.  For a small number of people who have difficulty with energy bills and would be deterred by the cost of a survey, we have been awarded a grant by the Bishopston, Cotham and Redland Neighbourhood Partnership, from Bristol Green Capital funds, to offer free surveys.  This will be done on a “first come, first served” basis and the survey will have to be completed by the end of the year to qualify.  So if you are  a householder – or know anyone – in this situation, e.g. a pensioner or other person on a low income, living in a cold, draughty house, please email or pass this information on.

Please comment, send us suggestions for future events or ask for more information about energy surveys, email
