BCR Energy Group Winter Update

bcreg

January meeting

Now that colder weather is upon us, you may be keen to make your home more energy efficient.  If you are still wondering what upgrade choices to make or how to go about it, there is nothing better than talking to someone who has already gone through the process, so come along to our next meeting and hear about the changes Lucy Pedlar and Chris Preist have made to their homes on

Monday, January 25th at 8pm at Redland Park United Reformed Church (corner of Whiteladies Road and Redland Park), BS6 6SA.

Lucy is an architect who has transformed her 1930s house to reduce the energy consumption by 73%. Chris has a previously draughty Victorian semi, which is now very well insulated and benefits from biomass heating  and solar hot water systems.  There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.   Even if you are not in a position to spend a lot of money, there are many small things you can do to improve comfort and reduce energy consumption.

Thermal imaging energy surveys

Thermal imaging energy surveys (offered by CHEESE – Cold Homes Energy Efficiency Survey Experts), are at last off the ground in the BCR area to assist people to make their homes more energy efficient and we have begun to train our own technicians. The surveys highlight cold spots caused by draughts, poor thermal insulation, etc. and will suggest remedial action.  They can only be performed during the winter months. Here are some responses from people who had the first surveys on December 6th:

From someone who struggled to heat her home to a comfortable temperature: “A real eye opener. Excellent! I found I could do everything for about £150 and got to work straight away.”

Internal survey images 2015 12From two people who had already made some insulation improvements: “Thank you very much for laying on Brian, Dave and Matt today. Very instructive, some draught proofing and the like to work on but generally very encouraging for us.”

“There were still places where draughts were coming in and heat leaking out that I would never have thought of and the electricity monitors are excellent for making me.”

We are still searching for people on low incomes who might qualify for a free survey (the normal cost is £70.00), so if you know anyone who might be interested, please pass the information on to them with our email address. If you would like further information, are interested in signing up for the next block of surveys in the New Year, or have any comments or suggestions, please email us at info.bcrenergy@gmail.com
